MySpace – Social Networking Part 4

myspace.gifI set up MySpace today for the first time as an experiment in online marketing.  MySpace receives lots of hype and even more users. Anyone from politicians to music bands is on MySpace. There are lots of good stuff out there but also lots of not so good as well. I guess it takes some time to manage your MySpace. Just like anything else. Once you establish a good network, it can draw more traffic than your website.

Last summer I spoke with a guy from a rock band called Sanctus Real, and he told me that their Sanctus Real MySpace page draws 3 times more traffic than their website, even though their main website is all over their marketing materials and their CDs.

I guess MySpace just draws people. In 2006 it was #10 position for top websites.

What is MySpace? Here is a popular definition:

MySpace is a social networking website offering an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos. It is headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, USA, while its parent company, News Corporation, is headquartered in New York City. (Wikipedia)

Some use MySpace for business, but I have not seen yet any compelling reports how effective it is. If you have please post the links in the comments.

My MySpace page.  (This kind of sounds funny.)
