It’s Not What You Publish, It’s Where

Peter Da Vanzo of “The V7 Network” makes a very interesting point which kind of goes contrary to what some of the SEO voices have been saying for a while:

“it’s not what you publish, it’s where”. Or “Content isn’t king, popularity is”.  Domain reputation is just about everything in SEO in 2007. Once you’ve got a  trusted domain, it’s very easy to rank well in Google. Building up that level of  trust, i.e. an aged domain with strong inbounds, takes time, of course. Peter Da Vanzo

Sure, keyword density and content are important along with other factors like that, but I tend to agree with Peter about his point. Trusted domains and popularity of a website will give the published content an edge over the same content and the same keyword density on a brand new domain. You only rank well with a brand new domain when your keywords are not very popular. I have experienced this first hand.

Half SEO Notebook tends to disagree and he even challenged with an experiment that I will help him with by creating this link: seo course. What he is trying to do here is to rank higher than Peter on Google for these terms. Even if he gets one more inbound link than Peter, his theory claims that his page will be listed higher than Peter’s. I don’t think Half will succeed.

If you notice I gave Half 2 links and Peter just one. Not sure if 2 links coming from the same page count as 2 or 1, since it’s the same source.

Thanks alot the link! My post is already on page one for “free seo course” and page two for the slightly more competitive term “seo course” so I think I’m at least half way there to proving my point =)

Halfdeck, that is cool. You are very welcome and lets watch what happens. Keep me informed on any more of your experiments.
