Time Change Spring 2007

My family was flying on March 11, 2007 the day of the 1 hour time change. Who would have thought that 1 hour time change would wreck havoc in the computer system at the airport on that day. So what happened?

My wife and daughter went to the airport at 6:00 am on Sunday morning just to be met by 2 mile long line at the counter. People were not able to check-in that easily because the computer system was down. So, they resorted to the old fashioned way. Pen + paper, hey it still works that way.

When the time came to board the airplane, there was no boarding passes as we know it, so the boarding process could not be the same as usual. However there was pen and paper. While reading the names of the passengers in alphabetical order, the gate agent checked off each name as they boarded the airplane. This caused only a 40 minute delay. It worked without the computer. Who needs them anyway?
