Chicago Police + Apple, Inc. = Recovered Stolen iPods

applelogocpd.jpgMy coworker told me today that she got a call from the Chicago Police. My immediate question was “What did you do?” Nothing, she responded. She lives in the Milwaukee area, but 3 months ago she was visiting friends in Chicago. Her husband left the car running to get warmed up. While they were waiting for the car to warm up someone stole their iPod from the warming van. They did not notice it until later on, so they never reported it. They bought a new iPod right away, because how can you live without one?

The call from the Chicago Police came to Apple, Inc. asking about the owners of certain serial numbers of iPods they recovered from a recent theft bust.

The Police called Apple, Inc. telling them that they have recovered some iPods. Apple checks their records and calls my co-worker telling her that her iPod has been found by the Chicago Police Department (CPD). CPD is requesting a phone call. She calls the Chicago Police and they invite her to come in to pick up her long stolen and forgotten iPod. Pretty cool. Good job Chicago PD and Apple, Inc. Way to go! They both made our Kudos category!

The moral of this story is – register your iPod with Apple. You never know when you will need it. Also, when warming up your car in Chicago, lock the doors! Make sure you have a second set of keys to get in when your car is warm and toasty…

Also, don’t put embarrassing songs on your iPod.

I purchased my iPod through apple.com. Do I still need to register it, and if so, do you know how to register it with Apple?

Juan – great point, that is for sure… I never thought of this maybe because I do not have songs like *that* :) .

Scott, to register your iPod just go to https://register.apple.com/ and following the Apple magic.
