Today I am posting some great SEO (search engine optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing) resources that I use in my daily work. I created a link section in the lower right column on this blog called “SEO Sites.” Most of the links from this post have permanent home there.
Search Engine Optimization and Marketing is an area where things are constantly changing. This is why regular reading of these SEO related websites will keep you updated on major events. You can definitely waste you life on those websites if you chose to, but it is not necessary to read everything on every site listed, obviously. Below I list some of the best resources on the topic.
To start your SEO news fill I would take a look at Danny Sullivan’s new venture Search Engine Land where he compiles daily dose of industry related information. Here is his latest SearchCap post, as he calls it “The Day in Search.” Danny is an undisputed authority on the subject of internet search. For years he is chairing the number one conference in the search industry Search Engine Strategies.
Another strong resource is Search Engine Watch, which is the organizer of the acclaimed Search Engine Strategies conferences.
Matt Cutts is Google’s engineer in charge of combating search spam, and doing a good job at it. Often he diffuses unfounded accusations directed towards his employer.
Google has their own official Google Blog on the topic, a good source of information.
To be fair to the other great search engines, here are the official blogs of MSN Live Search, Yahoo Search Blog and Ask.com Blog where many interesting topics are discussed, including some humor related to Ask and Google pen running out of ink. This is funny.
SEOMoz blog is edited by Rand Fishkin and others. Rand has cool posts such as this one where he rounds up SEO issues from around the internet. Rand did a very interesting viral social networking stunt, he proposed to his girlfriend in a form of a Superbowl commercial. She did say yes.
Some other good resources are:
- Jim Boykin is a CEO of Internet Marketing Company We Builds Pages.
- Darren Rowse where he lists 34 Reasons Why Readers Unsubscribe From Your Blog.
- Jennifer Slegg where she mainly deals with contextual advertising issues such as Google AdWords.
- SEO Egghead where Jaimie Sirovich shares his PHP and SEO expertise on his site as well as in him newly published book.
- Todd Malicoat where among other SEO topics he discusses 7 Opportunities for “New School” SEO.
- Pronet Advertising where their have a cool podcast series, interviewing different authorities in the area of search.
- Copyblogger deals with online marketing. One of the latest posts gives 5 tips to unique blog.
- Bill Slawski provides tons of useful information and is not shy of controversial topics.
- Bruce Clay gives a great overview of SEO.
In the near future I will post some useful tools which are indispensable when dealing with SEO and SEM. Stay tuned.
If you have a resource that you use and wish to share feel free to recommend it in the comments section.
